The Eifelsteig is one of Germany's most famous long-distance hiking trails. It stretches approximately 313 kilometers from Aachen to Trier, passing right through the Vulkaneifel region.
Two sections of the Eifelsteig trail are located very close to the hotel and are particularly appealing for hiking in the Vulkaneifel.
Stage 10: Gerolstein – Daun
- Length: approx. 24 kilometers
- Difficulty: hard
- Duration: 6.5 hours
- Elevation gain: 697 meters
Refreshed by the volcanic water from the Helenenquelle spring, the trail leads up to the ruins of Löwenburg Castle, offering sweeping views over Gerolstein. The path winds through dense forests to the idyllic Büsch Chapel and on to the observation tower on the Dietzenley.
At an elevation of 618 meters, you’ll stand on genuine basalt, take in the panoramic views, and feel the breeze on your face. After a detour to the curious Giant Mouse Trap in Neroth, you’ll cross the gentle valley of the Kleine Kyll. Hiking past the fairytale-like Nerother Kopf with its gnarled roots, you’ll finally make your way leisurely toward your destination, Daun.
Stage 11: Daun – Manderscheid

- Difficulty: hard
- Duration: 7 hours
- Elevation gain: 625 meters
From the Daun Spa Park, you’ll immediately sense the mystical energy of the Vulkaneifel. As you climb the steep slope, the Gemündener Maar suddenly glistens deep blue through the trees. At the top of the crater rim, the Dronketurm offers a fantastic view of the tranquil Weinfelder Maar and its herds of goats
Follow narrow paths down to the Schalkenmehrener Maar and straight into the picturesque Liesertal valley. The gentle murmur of the river accompanies you through the utter silence all the way to the castle town of Manderscheid. A rocky path finally reveals the first spectacular view of the Oberburg. Just a few more steps to your destination.
Dauner Maare Loop Trail
- Length: approx. 8 kilometers
- Difficulty: easy to moderate
- Duration: about 2.5 hours
This classic hiking trail passes by three maars: the Gemündener Maar, the Weinfelder Maar, and the Schalkenmehrener Maar. It’s a trail with ever-changing views that showcases all the beauty of the Vulkaneifel in a compact route.
Pulvermaar Loop Trail
- Length: approx. 2.5 kilometers
- Difficulty: easy
- Duration: about 45 minutes
At around 72 meters, the Pulvermaar is the deepest maar in the Eifel. The short loop trail circles the crater lake, mostly through shady woods, offering frequent beautiful views of the deep-blue water. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll.
